My partner and I finally decided to become part-time pet sitters this year. As we hav a busy life as a manager and as a love coach, and we love to travel and being outdoors, we expected to be in our 80'ies to be able to have the time for enjoying being surrounded by our own pets.
Fortunately there are people for whom it is important that their pets are well taken care of. And you know what?
We really, really loves to take care for other peoples pets!
When I was a child I had a dog, later my partner and I had cats, but as I said: unfortunately we can not take care for pets on a permanent basis at this moment.
We consider ourselves very fortunate and lucky to have great experiences in pet sitting the moment we started this in the beginning of 2024. We enjoyed taking care of two independent outdoorsy Swedish cats in winter, we spent a week in summer in the UK taking care of a bit older cat who enjoyed many cuddles, loves cat videos 🙂and recently we played and ran daily with a Golden Doodle and a Labrador Retriever together. The latter had sadly a head wound when we arrived, and she wasn't able to stop scratching without our presence. It was so sad to watch. Of course we contacted the pet owner. She had a special dog shoe, which we put on the 'scratching paw'. Still, we decided to stay with the dogs and not go out without them. We were able to enjoy running with both the dogs and take them to a terrace and having a nice cup of coffee.
As long as the dogs were distracted, there was no scratching 🙏🏻
As we discovered by accident, we noticed that our NLP (Neuro Linguisti Programmin) training in the past also worked with dogs (cats are a bit a different story, works also but needs more time and 'mirroring').
Be aware of their unique energy, use this as leverage to have them enjoying being trained to do what you want: listen to your voice and behave properly near water, other dogs and people/children. And give them space and time to run or walk so they have an outlet for their natural source of energy.
We also discovered that there are all kinds of YouTube videos for animals. We really loves it when we discover a favourite for the pets, like a cat on one of our photos and two parakeets we also took care of.
We live near Delftse Hout, a paradise fir dogs and dog lovers.
We are looking forward taking care of many pets through this platform of PAWSHAKE!
